It was a comlplete joy to have the time to cook for my own family today and to eat my own food. Here is my favorite waffle recipe. (Substitute buttermilk if you wish for tender heavier waffles, and also add a tablespoon of vanilla).

One Hour

Setting up the chairs.

A 5 x 5 canvas. A cup of coffee. 

The birds are singing loudly.

Finding a bear costume. 

Choosing a photo reference. 

My garage. 

A husband painting beside me. 

Getting juice. The movie's over.

A kid wrapped in a blanket watching us.

One hour later.

I think I've got it.

Contemplating Eggs

A shell protects the growing creature inside. It's a portable womb with a little help from a warm body that buries or tenders it. The white and yolk of an egg bounce lightly in the shell and echo the movement of the human who's carrying it. The colors. The creatures that lay them. The people that love them.
